The Latest Review on Reflections of Rosalyn

Reflections of Rosalyn
I enjoyed reading Reflections of Rosalyn by Theresa Franklin. It was a very emotional story, and I quickly became engaged in the story and characters. Ms. Franklin wrote it with the main character, Rosalyn, having flashbacks of events of her life, which I could see possibly getting confusing for the reader, but I thought she did a good job of making those transitions clear. It was heartbreaking to read of someone having such a rough, love-less childhood, but it did make Rosie in to the person she became.

Where Love Once Lived

Image of Sidney W. Frost

Where Love Once Lived by Sidney W. Frost is a lovely story of everlasting love.    It is the story of two lovers torn apart by circumstances and then given the opportunity to reconnect.  It is also the story of Brian who turned his back on God and was given the opportunity to repent.  Will they take the opportunities given them?  Both have the desire.  Both have doubts.
Where Love Once Lived

Mr. Frost captures the reader's attention immediately with a mystery.  Karen and her class have learned to look forward to Tuesday.  Every Tuesday for six weeks a bouquet of flowers has arrived at the school for Karen, a fifty three year old divorcee.  Sam, the delivery man refused to say who the sender is.  Sometimes he indicated he doesn't know and other times that he knows but won't tell.

Finally, the mystery is solved and Karen feels a major disappointment.  It is not at all what she expected.  The secret admirer turns Karen's world upside down--again.  He had hurt her thirty years ago.  There was a reason he had hurt her, but so far it was his secret.  There was a reason she was devastated by the breakup, but so far it was her secret.  Divulging these secrets to each other was risky.  It could bring them closer together or tear them apart for eternity.

To learn the secrets and the price it cost these young people, read Where Love Once Lived by Sidney W. Frost.

Harrison Goes Camping

Harrison Goes Camping is part of  The Harrison Series by author and illustrator Becky Howard.  In the story Harrison goes camping with his parents. Before bedtime he disobeys his father, resulting in catastrophe for the entire family.  Harrison learned that when we make a decision--good or bad--there is a consequence.  I especially liked that the consequence was natural.

Harrison Goes Camping
As parents we spend too much time teaching our children that we will deliver a consequence when the monster of disobedience rears his ugly head.  What happens when our children aren't with us?  "We will find out."  We try to tell them, instilling the fear of discovery in their little minds.  No matter how we fight it, our children will leave us one day.  They will be on their own and will make decisions without our valuable input.  Children should learn that every decision they make will be followed by a natural consequence.  A happy, well adjusted child or adolescent is one that knows that there will be a natural consequence to his decision and is able to determine if the consequence is worth the risk.   As teens they may be willing to try a controlled substance thinking their parents won't find out.  But may not be willing to try it due to the risk of harm to their body or mind.  It is important that we teach our children to make their own decisions.  Harrison made his decision and he lived with the consequence.

Thanks Becky Howard for writing a story to teach small children a major developmental skill

Reviews of Reflections of Rosalyn

I like to share reviews of my novels by other reviewers.  Well, actually I like to share the good ones.  But just like in life, not all things are great.  Today I am sharing two reviews.  One positive-one negative.  Please read and enjoy them.

Good storyline, but somewhat disjointed.,

This review is from: Reflections of Rosalyn "A Life of Victory" (Kindle Edition)
The story of Rosalyn and the events that shaped her life. The book starts as Rosalyn faces life without her beloved husband who she just lost to a long illness. It jumps back and forth between the present and her past. Unfortunately, that's where the author lost me. I've read books in this style before and, while not my favorite, they were okay. This book seemed very choppy and disjointed. It would take me a minute to figure out which time we were in. Many times the switches made no sense--they didn't flow at all--while other times something she was facing in the present would bring a memory of the past. I felt like the book never really came together. Some of the story line felt forced, as well. Other than a couple of bad incidents, things seemed to just constantly fall into place in Rosalyn's best interests which seemed very unreal. This book had a lot of promise, but I felt it didn't quite live up to it.

I received a digital copy of this book from the author through CWA for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I really liked this book. Once I started reading it, I didn't want to put it down. It is the story of Rosalyn and when it starts out, her husband has just died. It goes back and forth from the present to the past as we find out how Rosalyn got where she is in the present. I was enchanted with this book. This is the first book I have ever read by Theresa Franklin, but it probably won't be my last. It had a good Christian messsage, and even though Rosalyn made a mistake, she was still faithful. This just goes to show us that everyone makes mistakes. Great job Theresa.

I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest review.

(Melina awarded Reflections of Rosalyn five stars.)

I would like to thank each for their honest opinion.  Please leave a comment I can share with them.

Chrome--Shining Faith

The Book Mama reviews

Chrome-Shining Faith by Barbara Derksen

Once again Barbara Derksen has written a devotional book that speaks to the heart of everyone.  It is aimed at bikers, but applicable to everyone.  In Two Up, Barbara focused on walking daily with Christ.  Straight Pipes dealt with using everyday objects, such as motorcycles, to witness for Christ.  In Chrome-Shining Faith, Barbara writes about Christ did for us.

Wow, think about that.  Without Christ giving Himself for us, the other two devotionals would be pointless.  Barbara begins the devotional with teaching the word Propitiation.  The dictionary defines propitiation as to appease or conciliate somebody or something, to make favorably inclined; appease; conciliate.  I prefer to say it means paying a debt that belongs to someone else, or accepting the consequence for the behavior of someone else.  As usual, Barbara begins the devotions with a modern day story that draws you in and then she relates that story to our relationship with Christ.

Barbara Derksen is a master at drawing parellels between human interactions and our relationship with Christ.  I highly recommend Chrome-Shining Faith by Barbara DerksenChrome-Shining Faith will help you see just how much Christ sacrificed on your behalf.

Two Up

Riding With the Lord

by Barbara Derksen

Two Up is one of five devotionals written by Barbara Derksen.  The devotionals target bikers, but speak to everyone.  Barbara and her husband have a heart for bikers and minister to them.   I reviewed Straight Pipes a couple of months ago.  In Straight Pipes, Barbara teaches about witnessing for Christ on a daily basis.  She shows how to use a motorcycle as a tool to draw people to you, allowing a witnessing opportunity.

In Two Up, Barbara focuses on walking daily with Christ.  My favorite part of the book was Before We Begin.  Barbara taught the meaning of Sanctification.  As she does in each of her devotions, Barbara began with scripture and then used an easily understood modern day story to bring home the point. The devotion ended with prayer.  By the time I finished the devotion, I had a clear understanding of the meaning of Sanctification.

Barbara uses some gripping stories to present the gospel.  The stories alone will touch your heart and the spiritual application will speak to your soul.  Barbara's devotions are short, easy to understand, and straight to the point.  I highly recommend Barbara Derksen's Two Up, Riding With the Lord for bikers and non-bikers.
